Question:  What does it mean when we are at impasse?

Answer: It means that the negotiating team is meeting with an arbitrator who will attempt to listen to both sides and come up with a compromise that both parties can agree to. At that point if both parties can come to an agreement through an arbitrator another contract will be brought to the membership for approval.

Question: Are there new regulations pertaining to Teacher Certification as of February 2, 2004?

Answer: Yes, the State Ed. will have new regulations pertaining to teacher certification 2/2/04. How does this apply to you?

1. If your provisional certificate does not expire and you meet all permanent requests before it does expire, new rules DO NOT pertain to you.

2. If you apply for a new subject after 2/2/04, new rules WILL APPLY to you.

3. If your provisional certificate will expire 1/31/04 or 8/31/04 and all permanent requests will NOT be met by that time, you can apply for a provisional renewal. THIS NEXT WEEK only. Requests for this renewal: application, fee, LAST/ATSW exams, 2 workshops (child abuse, viol. prev.) & full fingerprinting clearance.
